Are you blogging for fun or for income? Do you have a website and would love to have extra income from it? Then, you will need to monetize your blogs or websites. Here is why and how you need to do it.

Internet ads have overtaken conventional media ads on revenue generation since the advent of social media and the internet revolution. Conventional media organizations have in fact turned to internet ads for ad income. Hence, the profitability of Facebook, Amazon and Google. One way to key into the equation and join the bandwagon for bloggers is through Adsense.

Having your blog monetized is usually the dream of every blogger, whether you are blogging for just the fun of it or for income.

While other ad. organizations are out there, such as propeller ads, Bidvertisers and even GoDaddy, Google adsense remains the most common and sought-after by bloggers.

They hardly discriminate, insofar as you have the traffic and the content. They are also one of the oldest networks out there and they leverage on the versatility and popularity of their parent company, Google, to match ads with content publishers.

Therefore, the possibility of reaping huge financial benefit from having your Adsense application approved is high if you do the necessary and right things.

Here is a quick guide on how to get approved fast and early. It will help you through the frequently asked questions about adsense such as: Does my blog qualify for Google adsense or not; How do I become eligible for Google Adsense; What requirements do I need to fulfil before applying for Adsense; How can I avoid my application for adsense to be rejected; how do I get adsense fast?

1. Six Months Old

Oftentimes, Google will require you to own the blog or website for at least 6 months. In other words, you cannot have your blog approved for adsense if you have not had and operated it for 6 calendar months.

This, I believe, is a sort of quality assurance measure. It is estimated that advertisers lose more than 100 million Dollars yearly to ad fraud by publishers (publishers are owners of blogs and websites who place third party ads on their blogs or websites for income). GOOGLE, therefore, implemented this policy to check these sharp practices and ensure that a publisher has the track record to operate a website and blog and not just looking for ways to defraud advertisers.

2. SUFFICIENT CONTENT

I can attest to this requirement and Google takes this very seriously. If you want to have your account approved fast, then ensure you have sufficient content.

I had my first application for adsense rejected because I did not have enough content. In fact, I was basically copying content from friends' blogs and placing on my blog. Thinking that I have got the content, I applied for Adsense and got bounced. That was an eye opener.

Do your best to have a few original and long articles or content before applying. Google Adsense treasures niche publishing and content driven websites.

After the rejection of my application, I decided to go down and write about four original articles. There were quite long too. Boom!!! my next application was approved without any hesitation from Google Adsense.

The moral of the story is: ensure you have some original articles. Although it is not bad to draw inspiration from other sources, do your best to add to the discourse.

Also, avoid pornographic materials, such as videos or photos or expressions that may appear to be sexually provocative. You will never have your account approved if your blog or website has adult contents, no matter how relatively small they are.

3. HAVE A "PRIVACY" PAGE AND AN "ABOUT US" PAGE

It is expected of every website or blog to have a privacy page. This is an industry requirement and, sometimes, a statutory requirement; it tells your visitors what information of them is collected and how they are collected and used by your website.

Major economies like Canada, United States and the European Union statutorily require such disclosure to be readily made to visitors; and Google being a compliant organization demands same from its publishing partners.

4. GENERATE TRAFFIC

Besides having the content, Google would want your blog or website to have traffic. Google is into Ad placement for profit; therefore, it would want to ensure that all approved partners are contributing to this mission by generating the income Google requires to keep up with competition.

It is a bragging right too if they can show how much of their clients' ads get seen and how much of those ads actually lead to greater profit for the clients.

Another reason is that advertisers place ads to get noticed and to drive up their revenue and Google makes such commitment when they sign up to place those ads on behalf of the advertisers. So Google Adsense partners bear the burden of this commitment.

Note, this too , that while Google may treasure traffic, it does not accept all types of traffic sources: illegal sources or paid traffic are frowned upon by Google. The best types of sources are search engines, social media and related blogs' backlinks. It is for this reason that Google encourages niche and original content. It also underscores the authority of the blog posts and helps with search engine rankings.

5. IMPROVE YOUR BLOG DESIGN

Google hates clumsy websites. Your website should be clean and easily navigable by visitors.

Take it this way: would you visit a website that you find difficult accessing through? The answer is NO. The same way, Google wants you to ensure your website or blog is organized. Try using basic templates and do your layouting well.

6. BE 18 YEARS OLD AND ABOVE

While other requirements relate to your blog or website, this requirement relates to the blog or website owner. You are required to be 18 years or above to have your blog or website approved for Adsense monetization.

SUMMARY OF WHAT IS REQUIRED OF YOU to get your adsense application approved:
a. Your blog should be 6 month old or more;
b. Have sufficient content and avoid pornograhy and hacks;
c. Have a privacy and "about us" pages;
d. Generate traffic through niche and original content;
